MEMORIES - From those of you who have spent time at
the San Diego Armed Services YMCA Hotel:
"17 years ago, I was a lonely sailor from the East Coast stationed at
NAS North Island on the carrier USS KITTY Hawk CV-63. The Y
downtown was a wonderful refuge and a good place to meet good people.
I never got a chance to thank you until now for your services. Thank you."

"I am happy, after so many years since I was a young sailor in San Diego
enjoying your hospitality, to be able to contribute a bit toward giving
assistance to the young service men and women who are serving our Country
today. "From my observance, I don't believe young people can survive without
assistance as we were taught to do in "the olden days." That is justthe way
of life in these modern times! "I feel privileged, as a Retired Navy Chief Petty
Officer, to be in a position to give a little toward giving assistance to the
young service men and women in today's society."

Giving a little help at
Christmas!
Thanks to our Social Workers: "My second child born with a
congenitalheart defect came home after 5 weeks in need of overwhelming
care and attention. My family is on the East coast and my military
husband travels often. Your social worker came to my home on several
occasions to assess my needs and offer assistance. Your agency
provided respite care for my other children, which enabled me to focus
my attention on my youngest child. For all that you have done I am
eternally grateful. I do not know how I would have gotten through this
ordeal without this help. I'm very glad I was referred to you and that
there are agencies out there like yours that are able to assist others
in time of need. Thanks again for all your help!"
...."I recall the first day we met. I was a depressed mess and had no
desire to do anything but hurt over my toddler's juvenile diabetes.
I was pretty sure no one would ever be able to help me....Through the
resources of your staff at the military hospital we built a special
professional relationship. I know that I was not always easy to work
with and still you helped me and guided me. Not only were you able to
help me work with a system I'd already given up on, but you were also
able to allow me to open up and care for myself again as a person.
"I thank you for all the phone calls you had to make, for all the letters
you so persuasively had to collect to build a file, for all the trips you
had to make to my home, for all the phone calls you made 'just to see
how I was feeling'. For this and so many other things, I thank you. My
family thanks you. Through your work, you've enhanced the quality of our
lives.I hope your organization continues on making differences in families,
like you did in ours."

"Please accept this small donation for the Armed Services YMCA on the occasion
of my 65th birthday. Need I say more? It is great to see our dedicated military services
personnel be recognized for their sacrifices that they have made throughout
history for our country, and to see them receive increases in their
benefit programs. We all have so very much to be grateful for in this country."
